My 2021 Picks: Makeup

Seems like just yesterday I was writing this guide for 2020 :) Can’t believe we made it through the last 2 years, but here we are! And we’ve discovered some great products along the extremely bumpy way…. :)

Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush

First up, of course is a pick of my all time favorite beauty Brand— the Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush. This product has sent me into a blush FRENZY. I love piling this on like crazy because no matter how much you use, it remains light, creamy, and natural. It adds such a beautiful flush to my face and pulls my cheekbones sky high! Being fair, discovering the power of blush has been so exciting as I can’t ever go super crazy with the contour and bronzer. This blush works so well with a highlighter and light contour to pronounce cheekbones even on my most vitamin D deficient days…

I also LOVE the way it applies. Its a creamy mousse, lipstick like texture that applies and blends beautifully with your fingers, or for a heavier applications, the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Foundation brush.

I can’t recommend this product enough, top pick for 2021, and forever my go to. I use shade Nearly Neutral :)

Marc Jacobs Glow Away Highlighter

Shockingly enough as someone who loves playing and experimenting with makeup, I find highlighter truly terrifying… So my discovery of the Marc Jacobs Highlighter was a total game changer for me. I came across this product during a Marc Jacobs shopping spree when everything was 50% off (they are re-launching the brand so they were doing a clear out sale). I fell in love with this product so immediately, I went back to Sephora next day and got 3 more….

What I love so much about this product, is that it is purely glowing with NO shimmer. It does not emphasize skin texture, its not blinding— it is the perfect “glow form within look” that everyone talks about (but never really means bc what does that even mean). Anyway, it truly just looks so natural and healthy, and is super easy to apply and blend. The applicator is a felt tip that I swipe directly onto the face and proceed to blend with my fingers. It is impossible to apply “too much” of this product as well. Super safe for highlighter beginners. Unfortunately given the brands relaunch, it is now a discontinued product, but worth the mention nonetheless. If this sounds like something up your alley, I recommend searching for highlighters with a “no shimmer” descriptor, as that should lead you to a similar product!

Pillow Talk Lip Liner

Third up, a cult classic since, (and previously mentioned in prior blog), the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk. This is a universally flattering shade. However I gravitate towards for the color as well as the long stay!! I can’t tell you how many drugstore lipliners I have tried in the past that slide off after 2 minutes… Applying this lipliner with my Rare Beauty Lip Balm for a natural day to day lip, or with the CT Pillow Talk Lipstick, or even as just a base for my YSL RedRouge, this baby holds it all in place. Of course touchups are always necessary, but the feathering effect I find so mortifying, NEVER happens with this lipliner. Consider this my STRONGEST recommendation in case you don’t believe the 10 million other women or beauty magazines obsessed with this lip product!

Anastasia Brow flick

These last 2 years have been a time of serious brow experimaentation… I have tried dying, laminating, brow pencils, soap brows, makeup “face lift” brows, and makeup “micro bladed” brows. I put quotations around the last 2 to emphasize these were makeup tricks and non-surgical procedures lol. Anyways, I believe I have found my go to brow niche. For the longest time, I was an Anastasia BH Brow Wiz, wiz… I “filled” (aka colored the crap) out of my brows seeing as they are an invisible bleach blonde (yay me). However since tinting my own brows, I have been able to use different techniques to achieve a more natural brow look! When my brows are tinted, I love to use the soap brow technique and go in with this Anastasia Brow flick product to miss off the tail ends of my brows for a natural, microbladed look. Its my favorite brow look as I feel my most naturally beautiful :) However as most of my ladies know, natural makeup is a lot harder to achieve and takes an unusually longer amount of time. So I still reach for my Brow wiz more often than not, however my discovery of this product was definitely a game changer and deserved a spot on the list!
