AZ Hiking Guide
For this guide we consulted one of Scottsdale’s finest— a member of the Hiking Divas squad and a backpacking world traveller, Miss Donna Crofford (:
Living here for 23 years, she has done them all, and here is a list of her go to’s. Enjoy! (I don’t…)
Phoenix Area
PINNACLE PEAK
Moderate. 4 miles in n’ out. Good workout. Nice views of high dollar homes and golf courses.
SUNRISE
Difficult. 4 miles in n’ out. Awesome workout.
BELL PASS
Difficult. 7 miles in n’ out.
TOM’S THUMB
Difficult. 4 miles in n’ out. Nice views. Note that small gravel makes trail slippery.
CAMELBACK MOUNTAIN
Difficult. 3.5 miles in n’ out. Boulder hopping.
GATEWAY LOOP
Easy. 5 mile loop.
PIMA DYNAMITE TRAILHEAD
Easy (and boring)— tbh sounds like my kind of hike. Also live right across the street so even better lol.
Excursions
GRAND CANYON, RIM TO RIM
Extremely difficult. 24 miles. Requires prep work and planning.
FLATIRON, SUPERSTIONS
Very difficult. Boulder hopping. Feeling of being on top of world from the peak.
HUMPHREY’S PEAK, FLAGSTAFF
Difficult. 12 miles in n’ out. 12,000 ft. elevation. Do in summer to avoid snow.
HAVASU FALLS
Magnificent experience. Multi-day hike. Requires planning and reservations.
CATHEDRAL ROCK, SEDONA
short, beautiful, easy
AIRPORT LOOP, SEDONA
Easy. 3 mile loop.
***In and Out = reach trail end and turn around
***Loop= trail runs in full circle, no backtracking
